In 1881 a Viking Age chieftains grave was found in a burial mount called Bjerringhøj close to Mammen in the middle of Jutland, Denmark.
The grave was very well preserved and many textiles were found.
Below you see reconstructions of brocaded bands woven using the same patterns as found in the grave. The original material is silk dyed in a reddish pink colour and spun silver- and gold thread.
