Reconstructions

Archaeological textiles are often poorly preserved and if you are not a specialist, it is difficult to imagine the original appearence when looking at the small brown fragments in a museums exhibition.

To give the public a more visual impression of the original textiles museums often want to exhibit reconstructions of textiles – reconstructions which are produced by use of the same materials and techniques as the original object.

During the reconstruction work many new details are often revealed and it is possible to draw more solid conclusions and thus a better interpretation of the object.
